SB1613 – Recreational Marijuana Bill

On Thursday, February 13, 2025, a joint hearing of the Senate Health & Human Services Committee and the Senate Judiciary Committee took place to discuss SB1613—the Senate’s version of the recreational marijuana bill, which the House had previously killed.

Hawaii Family Forum submitted testimony in opposition to this measure.

🔴 STATUS: The bill passed both the Senate Judiciary and Senate Health Committees.

Senate Judiciary Committee Vote Results:

🟩 3 Ayes: Senators Rhoads, Chang, San Buenaventura
❌ 2 Noes: Senators Gabbard, Awa

Senate Health & Human Services Committee Vote Results:

🟩 2 Ayes: Senators San Buenaventura, Hashimoto
🟩 1 Aye with reservations: Senator Aquino
❌ 1 No: Senator Fevella
🟨 1 Excused: Senator Keohokalole

🔜 Next Steps: The bill will now move to a joint committee hearing of the Senate Consumer Protection Committee and the Senate Ways and Means Committee for further discussion.

ACTION:

1. Pray, pray and pray.  Legislators are under a lot of pressure to pass and/or kill legislation and their phones are ringing off the hook.  Pray that the Lord will provide them with the conviction to do what is best for our community and Hawaii's keiki.
